HST202 - Start of Week 2 Reminder

Hello all,

CHAPTER 11 QUIZ & GUN OPINION POLL

Both quiz and poll are due TONIGHT, Monday, by 11:55pm.

WEB VIDEO CLIPS

Chapter 10 concludes with a section on slavery as it existed in the early 19th Century. Our hybrid class often requires that you watch some online videos to accompany our textbook. The first of the term is on the Nat Turner Rebellion in 1831. It is 7.5 minutes long. You were asked to watch it before our last class, but since we ran out of time, you should definitely watch it before class tomorrow. (We have another clip on the Trail of Tears for week 2.)

Remember, Moodle shows me which student have clicked on these links or not. The materials are applicable on your exams and are meant to go along with the important event mentioned in your textbook. Remember to look for "repeat information" in this class.

Just so there is no confusion, I will NOT be showing these online web clips in class. The online clips and the ones shown in class are NOT the same, yet you will be responsible for answer “According to the video” exam questions on all of them.

If you have technical problems and cannot view the online clips, you definitely need to take care of that technical problem right away. In this hybrid class, all students must be able to complete this online work.

LECTURE IMAGES

I definitely give you access to all of the images (pictures/charts/maps) I show in class. You will see a link in Moodle each week called Week # Lecture Images. I usually post these on Thursdays and the images for this past week are available now. Take a look. You will definitely see a number of these images on your midterm exam. I hope you've already taken a careful look at those from last week. I included 4 or 5 slides WITH the written notes, which was only done because of our lost class time due to the "snow day" last Tuesday.

UPCOMING FORUM

Our first online forum will be during the 3rd week, but as we prepare for that assignment, I've posted the How Forums are Graded instructions in Moodle. Be sure to read it over carefully. These forums are worth a very substantial 20% of your grade in this class, so come to class with any questions you may have. I have also posted the Forum 1 - Topic Introduction so that you can get an idea of what you will be discussing/debating next week.

That's all for now. I'm glad to have you in class (for those who stayed enrolled after LCC's Sunday evening drop deadline last night). I'll see you in class tomorrow.

MOODLE GRADEBOOK

The grade book in Moodle is always up-to-date and accurate. Take a look at the grade book ANY TIME during the term to see the effect your class attendance, Moodle polls, and computer quizzes have on your class grade. As of right now, your grade consists of whether you attended both days of class this past week, and if you completed the Chapter 10 Quiz and Gun Opinion Poll on time.

CHAPTER NOTES

I've included my notes from Chapter 10 on the Moodle website. We ran out of time in class on Thursday, but I'll definitely complete the chapter on Tuesday. My hope is that these notes are similar to the ones you took while reading Chapter 10 at home. I hope they can serve as an example for when you read and take notes on Chapter 11 for next week and for the rest of the term.

WIKI FOR SHARED NOTES

Is anyone interested in sharing their class notes with others on the wiki?

UPCOMING FORUM

Our first online forum will be during the 3rd week, but as we prepare for that assignment, I've posted the Forum Guidelines and Scoring page in Moodle. Be sure to read it over carefully. I've also included a page of some forum-related comments that students shared with me last term. Take a look and come to class with any questions you may have. These forums are worth a very substantial 20% of your grade in this class and I'd like all students to succeed in this online assignment.

That's all for now. I'm glad to have you in class (for those who stay enrolled after LCC's Sunday evening deadline). Have a productive weekend and I'll see you next Tuesday.
